Abstrakt

In recent years, the introduction of modern solutions to energy sector beyond energy efficiency places special emphasis on environmental issues. They concern efforts to achieve the lowest possible carbon dioxide emissions and toxic substances into the atmosphere. One
of the main methods to reach this goal is using biomass as fuel. Because of its life cycle, biomass is considered as neutral to the atmosphere from the point of view of carbon dioxide emissions. Another advantage is the high availability, especially in agricultural, industrial and forestry areas as well as sludge from waste water treatment. Currently, there are many technologies that use biomass for the production of electrical energy such as cocombustion, biogas and gasification plants. This article provides a detailed analysis of the potential acquisition of biomass in the Wielkopolska region (western Poland) which indicates the possibility of a significant increase in electricity production from this source.
