60 years of the scientific journal of the Faculty of Machines and Transport at the Poznan University of Technology

 In 2016, sixty years have passed since the publication of the first scientific journal of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, the predecessor of the present Faculty of Machines and Transport at the Poznan University of Technology. This scientific journal was titled Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture and was published by the Polish Scientific Publishing House. Professor Feliks Tychowski was the first editor-in-chief.

 In 1969, due to changes in the organizational structure of the university and formation of the Faculty of Machines and Vehicles (1967), the title of the journal was changed to Machines and Vehicles. The journal was published as part of the series of the Scientific Journals of the Poznan University of Technology. The papers were published in Polish and abstracts were published in Polish and Russian..

On 1 November 2000, the name of the Faculty of Machines and Vehicles was changed to the Faculty of Machines and Transport. Subsequently in 2001 the name of the scientific journal was also changed to reflect the new name of the Faculty.

New developments in science, in particular the trend to publish in English in journals which are indexed in international databases, contributed to decreased interest among authors in the Scientific Journals of the Poznan University of Technology – Working Machines and Vehicles series. This tendency was also noted in other domestic academic journals.

In 2013, a new editorial board was formed. Dr hab. inż. Piotr Krawiec was appointed to the post of editor-in-chief

To meet the authors’ expectations and to promote their scientific works, especially those of young scientists at the Faculty of Machines and Transport, the editorial board has undertaken a series of measures to improve the standard of the journal: it was renamed the Journal of Mechanical and Transport Engineering (JMTE), an international scientific board was appointed, along with thematic editors, and the reviewing procedure was adapted to the requirements of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The papers are now published in English.

 The Journal of Mechanical and Transport Engineering is indexed in: BazTech, Index Copernicus and in the POL-index system. In 2015, the efforts of the editorial board resulted in the journal being placed on the list of scientific journals of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The journal was awarded 6 points.

JMTE is authorized to assign DOIs (digital object identifiers) to the published papers.
